How to migrate from CosmoLex
Get your matters, contacts, and billing out of CosmoLex cleanly, know what the export leaves behind, and see where Referent picks up.
Get your data out of CosmoLex

Export contacts
Contacts > Address Book, then Action > Export Contacts for a full contact backup. Pick the delimiter and save the original file.

Export matters and lists
On each list screen use the Export icon, choose Custom Export, and set the full page range. Pick CSV or Excel and decide whether current filters should apply.

Hand accounting to accounting
Bank transactions, trust ledgers, invoices, payments, and opening balances go to the person who keeps your books, with a cutover date.

Compare totals
Row counts for contacts and matters, dollar totals for balances. If they do not match the screen, re-export before moving on.
What the CSVs do not carry
CosmoLex bundles legal accounting with practice management. Referent is the practice side, built from your inbox; your accounting keeps living in an accounting tool.
Before you cancel anything, run the same five checks every firm should: record counts against the screen, client-to-matter links, a few documents opened on the right matter, balances reconciled with your bookkeeper, and an untouched copy of every export kept as the archive. Download the checklist (CSV) and tick it off as you go.

Frequently asked questions
Does CosmoLex export my trust accounting?
Yes, as reports and CSVs. Treat them as accounting records: they go to your bookkeeper and your archive, not into a matter import.
Does Referent import my CosmoLex data automatically?
Not from a CSV, no. Referent builds your workspace from the mailbox, calendar, and documents you connect: the AI reads your correspondence and sets up clients, matters, and files from it. For the CosmoLex exports, your personal manager loads and checks them with you during onboarding. There is no button that swallows a CosmoLex file today, and we would rather say so than surprise you.
When should I cancel my CosmoLex subscription?
After you have counted records in the new system against your exports, opened a few documents on the right matters, and reconciled balances with your bookkeeper. Keep read access for a month past cutover if the contract allows it. Export first, cancel last.
